The People and the River theme provides an overview of the history, water-related cultures, livelihoods and the relationship of people with the environment in the Orange-Senqu River basin. The material has been structured into the following chapters:

General concepts of indigenous traditional knowledge are discussed. Traditional stories provide authentic impressions of the cultures in the basin and their relationship to water.
