The second 5-yearly comprehensive Joint Basin Survey (JBS2) of the quality of the water resources of the Orange-Senqu River Basin was undertaken in 2015.
This is one of the programmes of ORASECOM aimed at advising the State Parties on the development, use, and conservation of the water resources of the Basin.
The surveys are structured into four components, namely (i) Aquatic Ecosystem Health (AEH) Monitoring, (ii) Monitoring of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) & Metals; (iii) Inter-Laboratory Benchmarking; and (iv) Public & Schools’ Participation.
The first JBS i.e. JBS1 which established a baseline for the JBS2, and future JBSs, was undertaken in 2010 .
