VAT (Value Added Tax) | Tax on the estimated market value added to a product or material at each stage of its manufacture or distribution, ultimately passed on to the consumer. |
Vector-borne diseases | When a pathogenic microorganism is transmitted from an infected individual to another individual through an 'agent' (ie. mosquito). |
Vertebrate | Animal that does have a backbone. Also see invertebrate. |
Virtual water | The amount of water embodied in the goods a country imports and exports. |
Vulnerability | Vulnerability is a state in which an individual or community’s proximity to hazards, health issue and/or food insecurity threatens their existence or ability to function. |
Vulnerability context | Is a defined vulnerability scenario. They can be classified as shocks, trends and seasonal. |
Vulnerability indicators | Indicators used to assess vulnerability. |
Vulnerable | Facing a high risk of extinction in the wild. |
